Our Story

Ciao, Bella! We are honored you've allowed us to bring a taste of Mediterranean flair to your wardrobe. Exquisitely handmade in Positano, Italy, our clothing evokes the elegance and sophistication of the Amalfi Coast. Bellissima Bacchus embodies the essence of la dolce vita!

Meet our store owner featured in the photo, (wearing the Pink Wisteria Veleno dress) with Italian Designer Luisa Positano, in Positano, Italy. July 2024.

Our owner, having no Italian heritage, was named after Bacchus, the Roman god of wine and revelry - a rather serendipitous connection, as it aligns with her personality of never turning down an invitation to have a good time. Growing up, our owners' family always joked that her love for the "hob knob" is what made her a "true Bacchus," just like her grandfather, Mr. Basil Bacchus, who, himself had mastered the art of living the good life. You see, our owner was blessed to have known all four of her grandparents for the majority of their lives; each leaving quite the impression on her life. Her grandmother, a seamstress, worked in Boston's fashion district and often attempted to replicate the latest fashion trends for all her grandchildren; cut from paper patterns and sewn on her Singer sewing machine, our owner had to be the one to wear all the itchy tule and floral printed dresses in the middle of winter. Fashion played an intricate role in our owner's life, since she was a little girl.

Combining her pride in the Bacchus name and her love for Italian culture and its passionate people, our owner hoped to capture the essence of both; with the stunning Italian phrase "Bellissima," meaning "most beautiful" in English.

With over 40 years of apprenticeship under her grandfather's tutelage in both business and life, the most poignant lesson he imparted was that she was to leave this world more beautiful than she found it; just like he had. Borrowing his initials "B.B." for our store, the light inside our shop will always be lit by the flame of the legacy torch passed down from the late Mr. Bacchus to his first grandchild, our owner. The initial spark of entrepreneurship was ignited by her GREAT-grandfather, Mr. Rahim Bacchus in 1913, and it continues to burn brightly over a hundred years later, guiding us as we blaze new trails, spreading the Bacchus name around the world.

We hope Bellissima Bacchus reminds you, beauty is all around, regardless of what you wear. We are proud to share the rich legacy and history of the Bacchus family through fashion. Join us as we raise a glass of wine, (naturally!) to honor our tradition of living life to the fullest and celebrating our femininity every day. Salute! 🍷
